Cochineal is considered a natural and safe colour, and is free of chemicals contained in dyes such as ammonia, peroxide, etc. It is now available at Atara store in Saudi Arabia , as cochineal retains protein and water for dyed hair and protects it from damage resulting from ordinary chemical dyes.
How to use :
There are many ways to use cochineal, as the resulting color varies based on the nature of the hair, whether dark or light. It can be mixed with water only and used, it can be mixed with hair conditioner , and it can be mixed with yogurt and used. It can also be mixed with henna and many other recipes that contain natural herbs .
Recipe for dyeing hair with crimson:
First, apply Vaseline to the neck and ear area as an insulating material to prevent the vermilion from reaching the skin. Make sure to wear gloves.
Place a teaspoon of cochineal in a cup of water and leave it for half an hour. The following is added to the crimson water:
(A cup of henna, a teaspoon of mahlab, and a teaspoon of ground sidr ).
The dye is applied to the hair, making sure it does not reach the scalp. The hair is divided into six equal parts, covered and wrapped with a nylon bag. The dye is left on the hair for two hours, or according to the desired color shade. Then the hair is washed with lukewarm water with caution so that the vermilion does not come into contact with the skin or eyes.
Cochineal can also be prepared with yogurt to nourish and dye the hair.

It is best to do an allergy test to avoid any side effects.
It is recommended that after dyeing the hair with crimson, make an oil bath for the hair to moisturize it.
Avoid contact with eyes as it may cause keratitis.
